Band - Ricardo Narvaez

Ricardo Narvaez was born in Manizales, Colombia. There, he studied classical saxophone at the Music Band of Seminario Redentoristas College. Subsequently, he began his jazz training at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá. In 2008 he won first prize in Panamerican Jazz Competition Cannonball Adderley in Mexico D.F. and in 2009, after graduating, Narvaez received the prestigious DAAD scholarship (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) to study with Prof. Steffen Schorn and attend Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg, Germany. The distinguished list of educators he has studied with includes: Steffen Schorn, Hubert Winter, Klaus Graf, Peter Weniger, Silke Eberhard and Tilman Denhard. The saxophonist is close to release his first recording called "Mertiolate", in wich creates a bridge between elements of "Jazz Music" and "Traditional Music" from Colombia, combining intellectual sophistication with the strength and wisdom of the street. In his compositions, Narvaez began an intensive search of his own culture to learn about his roots and this is precisely the basis for achieving a sound simple and basic but at the same time original, deep and with energy.
