Roby Supersax Edwards started playing professional saxophone in Pittsburgh, PA at the age of 17 and has not looked back since. Now as one of the top tenor sax men worldwide in the Blues/Soul/Funk genre, Roby is starting to reap some of the rewards that come with over 15 years of devotion to music and honing his sound. Roby's current sound and approach to sax playing is rooted and grounded in the big toned, hard swinging, wall blasting excitement of the original master blasters of the tenor sax. Men like Big Jay McNeely, Red Physock, Ben Webster, Arnett Cobb, Sam "The Man" Taylor and Lee Allen. Roby also has learned a great deal from more funk oriented masters such as Maceo Parker, Andrew Woolfolk and Don Myrick. Roby, a Pittsburgh native, was also very fortunate to have several opportunities to hear and perform with the late great Stanley Turrentine who was from Pittsburgh as well. Roby's style was always going in the direction of Blues and Soul music, but he was considerably changed and challenged as a sax player after being exposed to Gato Barbieri. Within the roaring, penetrating, Barbieri sound, Roby found the road to his own unique style. After years of traveling first the United States and Canada, and then Europe (where the nickname "Supersax" was earned), Roby has arrived at a stylistic and musical high point. Roby's latest and most daring and visionary release, "DiRTY" is an example of the arrival of Roby Supersax Edwards. The concept of "DiRTY" came to Roby after being repeatedly called a "dirty" sax player which is a complement on the Blues/Funk circuit.
